Hi kiddies, and welcome to another exciting episode of VH1 story tellers. In this episode we will be learning all about the hit song by the Fundamental Elements titled, “All I Need.”
Accident Acceptence
It all started with a sound check before a show in Greenville, IL. I was just messing around and came up with the main riff for the song while I was checking the monitor level on my guitar. Before I knew it, the whole band had jumped in and was jamming over the riff and I immediately fell in love with the vibe we had going. It was one of those time where I remember saying to myself, “I have to write a song to this.”
Accident Prevention
The main inspiration for the song comes from the unique perspective I get while standing on stage at a club on any given weekend. You see, I’ve always enjoyed watching people…and something that I’ve noticed is that girls at clubs seem to enjoy being watched (or at least they dress like they hope to be).
I’m a happily married man (as are 3 of the 4 of my band mates) and although I’m not blind, I’m definitely not looking for the same kind of attention at a club that most of the patrons there are. So I thought it would be kind of fun to write a song about watching people at a club look for love while in the back of my mind I know that I don’t need to play those kind of games because I’ve got all the love I could ever need waiting for me when I get back home.
In the end, I really think it’s just a fun song about the desire we all have to find that special someone who we can rely on to be there for us with an, “I’ve got your back,” kind of love (as John Mayer put it). I think it’s also nice for those of us in the band that have wives at home to have a not-so-subtle reminder in the set every night to stay away from them girls. I’m sure they would agree.

i love this song! it’s one of my favorites.
Thanks Nicole. Mine too.
