According to Spent, a new book by Evolutionary psychologist Geoffrey Miller, the kind of car you drive and the music you choose to listen to shows what kind of intelligence you have.
Driving an Acura, Infiniti, Subaru or Volkswagen is a sign of high intelligence. Driving a Cadillac, Chrysler, Ford or Hummer is a sign of low intelligence. Listening to Bjork is a sign of high intelligence, while listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd is a sign of low intelligence.
Now I’m not one to brag (actually, I’m terrific at not being boastful), but it would seem to me that anyone who was into a certain soul/pop band that blends jazz, funk, r&b, rock and hip-hop music must be terribly smart. So from now on we should put a label on our CDs that read:
WARNING: The music contained in this album may confuse Hummer driving, Lynyrd Synyrd fans.

This is ridiculous, and almost insulting. :) It doesn’t seem to have much validity, at least at the outset. What if someone, like me, likes both Bjork and Lynyrd Skynyrd and drives a Honda?
Hmmm very interesting… but i would have to agree with Mr Geoffrey Miller. I mean it just makes sense. Dewayne… I think you may have to do some soul searching…
I drive a Ford and listen to FE. So I’m an idiot who got lucky with music? Wait! I also ride a 1985 Honda motorcycle which makes me … uh … what does that make me Joe?
Nice responses. My first reaction to seeing that NPR article was that I would bet there is a lot more complex demographic statistics at play in researching a book like that then simply being able to say “liking x music = y intelligence,” but at the same time I’m sure that education levels skew toward certain product preferences.
I still stand by my comment that we have smart fans though ;)
FE family members have to like FE, Ron… what else is in your album collection? Maybe we need more information to make a definitive answer :)
