Going On Over To Roberta’s House

For all those who are huge fans of the song and request it all of the time: this post is for you.
Last week FE had a special treat. We played an early set, so my (Russ) grandmother - or as we say in the south, “mammaw” - was in attendance to rock the party with the band. That’s right, the one and only Roberta, who was the inspiration for the all-time fan-favorite song, “Roberta’s House” (from the FE album, Birth of a Brand New Me). We don’t play her song too often live, but you better believe we busted it out just for her. It was a huge hit. A friend of hers with her at the show leaned over during the second song and said “I can’t understand a word they’re saying, can you?” Her reply: “No, but it’s good!” Nice, mammaw!
After the show, the FE boys went “on over to Roberta’s house” and were able to get a great photo opportunity. Enjoy.
For those of you who do not have a copy of FE’s debut album, Birth of a Brand New Me, and in honor of this momentous occasion, we’re making “Roberta’s House” available for free download right here at fundamentalelements.net for this week only.
DOWNLOAD EXPIRED (AKA - You should have been here earlier).
Some trivia about the song:
- Roberta doesn’t live at 123 Maple Street (you really think we’d give you her address?).
- Roberta doesn’t speak with a lisp.
- Roberta doesn’t have a glass eye.
- The last 50 seconds of the song are all improvised (and from one take), which is why the lyrics are so ridiculous (thank you, Ben Kesler).

I just think Roberta’s House is a neglected song from the FE catalogue. For real, who sings about their grandma makin pork chops and collard greens? It’s just completely and totally a song of it’s own. And for some reason I always thought that maybe Mark and Luke were doin the last 50 seconds since they never sing. I was also hoping some A&R guy would be hiding at the Village and would sign you to a record deal because of Roberta’s House.
Sampled the new album on iTunes and it sounds GREAT! My nameis Robert and I’m and OLD (way back in the day) friend of Russ (a.k.a. “the love muscle”)! Anyhow, just wanted to let everyone know that the new album is great and I’m proud of you Russ for doing your thing!
BTW, when are you guys coming to the WEST COAST for some shows???!!!!????
